Description

IGI Announces New Advanced Access Architecture Group of Reports

Information Gatekeepers, announced the coming availability of a complete new group of reports on the RBOCs’ Advanced Access Architecture plans.

In discussing this release at a seminar in Boston, Dr. Polishuk explained, “Information Gatekeepers has recognized the Advanced Access Architecture thrusts of the major US carriers as one of the most important events in telecommunications in history. As such, IGI has periodically issued five major reports on the FTTP/FTTn activities (as well as several separate reports in IPTV) of the RBOCs since they began in 2003.

"Now, because of the difficult economic times and in recognition of the wide interest in and deep importance of the AAA phenomena, we are issuing a series of reports that focus on narrower aspects of Advanced Access Architectures. We hope that this will allow our customers to select reports that specifically address the business issue or issues of concern to them.”

The reports in this group are the following:

“Advanced Access Architectures — 2008 — AT&T, Verizon and Qwest Plans and Forecasts.” This report is now available and is the most comprehensive report yet issued on the subject of Advanced Access Architectures.

“Cost Analysis of RBOC’s Advanced Access Architectures — FTTP, FTTN, FTTC,” This report will be issued in the nest few weeks and will cover all aspects of the costs of AAA. It will provide models to allow the reader to evaluate various schemes to shift from one architecture to the other, and to develop hybrid architectures.

“FTTP/ FTTN — The RBOCs' Advanced Access Architectures Equipment and Fiber Requirements.” This report will also be issued in the next few weeks. It will provide detailed quantitative information about the amount of fiber and equipment subsystems to implement the AAA plans. It also provides our separate forecast as to what the RBOCs will actually do in AAA, and the fiber and equipment needed to implement that forecast.

“Bandwidth Needs Analysis of the RBOCs' Advanced Access Architectures — FTTP and FTTN.” As with the others, this report will be issued in the next few weeks. It will develop a forecast for the bandwidth needed in the local loop, and then evaluate various schemes to achieve that bandwidth. It will particularly review PONs and FTTN approaches.

Dr. Polishuk concluded, “These reports are all prepared by Clif Holliday, the author of the Lightwave Series of reports and one of the pioneers in developing today’s AAA architectures — leading GTE’s efforts in that arena for many years in the late 1980s and early 1990s — which foreshadowed Verizon’s current FiOS. As we have the greatest depth of knowledge and experience in the field, our reports are clearly among the most authoritative in the industry.

“These reports are a part of our effort to provide our clients the broadest possible coverage of the Advanced Access Architecture area. We intend to continue to provide the latest and most authoritative information to our clients as the industry moves down this path.”
