Description
Krell Technologies’ Universal Workholder (UVG) is designed to polish any fiber optic component that incorporates a UPC-style ferrule with a diameter between 1.25mm and 3.2mm. This includes industry standard connectors such as SC, FC, ST, LC, MU, E2000 and SMA. M29504, TFOCA and ARINC 801 Mil-spec termini and contacts can also be loaded in the UVG. Even bare ferrules and fiber adapters are supported by this fixture. The UVG interfaces with Krell’s Scepter™, SpecPro™, Rev™ and Proton™ precision fiber optic polishing machines. Like all Krell workholders, the UVG integrates independent suspension and optical alignment at each component position. Independent suspension permits automated air polishing, and provides equalized pressure distribution for each component. Optically aligned positions yield Telcordia compliance for endface geometry on a consistent basis. The component flexibility of the UVG significantly minimizes capital investment. Rather than purchasing multiple sets of costly polishing fixtures, a single UVG workholder will accommodate an extensive range of UPC connectors and termini. In addition to standard connectors and termini, the UVG can accommodate many devices that integrate lightguides. Various types of medical cannula, fiber bundles, laser delivery cables and lenses can engage with the UVG. The UVG is also designed to interface with Krell’s SpecVision™ Videoscope. This instrument allows a technician to inspect the fiber polish while the component is still loaded in the UVG. In-line inspection reduces material handling, and eliminates potential fiber damage and contamination normally encountered when transferring components from a traditional polisher to an inspection station. This feature streamlines production, and provides immediate quality feedback while minimizing product rework.
